Really Cool Performance Art Piece

I don't know if you've already checked my blog but I just found this really cool performance art piece so I thought I might as well post it anyways.

Stanford Mobile Phone Orchestra

After poking around Google for a little bit, I thought this would be the perfect example of New Media Art. About six iPhones are have been made into an orchestra of smartphones. The performers transform multi-touch screens, built-in accelerometers, gyroscopes, microphones, cameras, GPS, data networks, and computation into powerful, mobile, and personal musical instruments and experiences.

Electronic Music (that's actually bearable to listen to)

I’ll be the first to admit that electronic music and me don’t mix that well. Personally I listen to mostly indie rock music, but don’t find dubstep anywhere near enjoyable unless I’m working out and really need extreme motivation. The first song I’ve linked is “Such Great Heights” by The Postal Service. The second song I’ve linked is “Girls Like You” by The Naked and Famous. I consider both these songs to be a little electronic and I enjoy them greatly.

Music Videos

I feel kind of silly admitting this but again it never occurred to me that music videos are video art pieces. No matter the type of music you listen to, music videos are offered which I think is cool because it kind of universalizes things. I’ve attached a music video to “My Kind of Woman” by Mac Demarco. I’ll admit this isn’t my favorite song, nor is Mac Demarco my favorite artist but I think the music video portrays video art perfectly.

Real Art Ways

The idea of video art really fascinates me but I can’t say that I’ve ever seen an example of it in real life and not off the Internet. There’s this artsy fartsy theater in Hartford (town over from me) called Real Art Ways and they show a lot of performance art pieces regularly actually. I’ve made it my goal for the summer to actually get myself over there (honestly the theater is maybe ten minutes away from my house at most) and see a video art piece.

Panono (art in the news)

For my art in the news to share with the class I chose the Panono. The Panono is an extremely high tech device in the shape of a sphere that captures the perfect panorama photo. The device itself contains 36 separate lenses that all capture a photograph simultaneously. The 36 different images are combined automatically for you to create the perfect image. The company who produces these devices is based in Berlin, Germany. The product itself is extremely durable and great for virtually any occasion and has been available for purchase since September of 2015. (https://www.panono.com/home)
