Personally I think it’s pretty cool that anyone with access to a 3D
printer now has the opportunity to print out a bust of Queen Nefertiti. The artists
involved made this available in an effort to make public artifacts available to
all, which I think is a different way of thinking about things. By doing this they’re
challenging museums to not only rethink their displays but are also hoping that
artifacts, like Queen Nefertiti’s bust, are returned to their original and
rightful home. There are millions of other stolen artifacts around the globe
and by starting a movement like this, artists Nora Al-Badri and Jan Nikolai Nelles are trying to make such things available to
everyone. I can say that this is a movement I definitely support.
